How to Watch and Stream Jake Paul vs. Anderson Silva
Jake Paul returns to the ring on Saturday, Oct. 29, to face former UFC middleweight champion Anderson "The Spider" Silva in the main event of a Showtime pay-per-view event at Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona.
Paul made his professional boxing debut in January 2020, defeating fellow YouTuber Ali Eson Gib in the first round via TKO. His second fight was a one-punch KO of former NBA star Nate Robinson in the second round. In April 2021, he defeated former Bellator and One Championship champion Ben Askren via first-round TKO before facing former UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley twice.
Paul (5-0, 4 KOs), 25, of Cleveland, defeated Woodley (0-2) by sixth-round KO in December, rematching Paul's split-decision victory over Woodley four months earlier. Paul was supposed to fight Tyson Fury's half-brother, Tommy Fury, on Aug. 6 at New York's Madison Square Garden, but Tommy was unable to obtain a visa to travel to the United States from the United Kingdom. Hasim Rahman Jr. was called in to replace him. But Rahman was having trouble losing weight, so the fight was called off the week before.
Paul stated that he has spent almost the entire year in training camp preparing for fights that did not take place, and that he is prepared for Silva's "unique" style.
"Look, I always train as if I'm going up against the best person in the world," Paul said on September 13. "We never cut corners, regardless of the opponent. You never know what your opponent has in store for you in the ring. And you must be prepared for the most difficult test of your life. However, we have a slew of southpaw sparring partners in training camp who are attempting to emulate his style. Obviously, it's very unique, but all of my fights have been against MMA fighters, so I'm used to that distinct style, different combinations, bigger punches, and unconventional style. So I've always been preparing for it."
Silva (3-1, 2 KOs), 47, of Brazil, defeated Julio Cesar Chavez in a split decision in June 2021 and KO'd former UFC light heavyweight champ Tito Ortiz a year ago. He is regarded as one of the best UFC fighters in the organization's history.
"I swear I'll go do my best to put on a good show for everyone here," Silva promised. "My attention is now focused on this fight because it is critical for every new generation, including mine. I believe in one thing: if you love something, you can achieve it; if you believe in yourself, you can achieve it. That is why I am here today: I never lost faith in myself."
