Southampton 1-1 Arsenal: The Gunners blow a four-point lead after being held at St Mary's.

Arsenal blew a four-point lead at the top of the Premier League when Southampton came from behind to draw 1-1 at St Mary's.

Following Manchester City's 3-1 win over Brighton on Saturday, Arsenal knew that only a win would be enough to reclaim a healthy lead at the top of the table, and they got off to a flying start when Granit Xhaka scored from a Ben White cross in the 11th minute.

Despite dominating the first half, Arsenal's lead remained slender, and they were punished when Stuart Armstrong's composed finish brought Southampton level (65).

The result moves Arsenal two points clear at the top, but it prevents their winning streak in all competitions from reaching nine games. Southampton's mini-revival is still ongoing. They are now unbeaten in three games, but they remain in 15th place, three points above the relegation zone.

What comes next?

Arsenal's next Europa League match is against PSV Eindhoven on Thursday (kick-off 5.45pm). On Sunday, Arsenal will play Nottingham Forest in the Premier League (kick-off 2pm).
